Four subtitle file formats — pick what your tool needs

.SRT
Universal — every editor and player accepts it
.VTT
Web-native — YouTube Studio, HTML5 video
.ASS
Styled — fonts, positioning, karaoke effects
.TXT
Plain transcript — no timestamps, ideal for reading

All four formats are generated from the same translation in one job. You can switch formats without re-running.

About downloading SRT subtitles from YouTube

SRT (SubRip Subtitle) is the most widely-supported subtitle format on the web. Every major video editor (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve), every media player (VLC, mpv, IINA, MPC-HC), and every video platform's upload form (YouTube Studio, Vimeo, Bilibili creator dashboard) accepts SRT files. If you only download one subtitle format, SRT is the safest choice — your file will work everywhere now and remain compatible for years.

YouTube's own subtitle download options are limited. The platform offers caption files in a proprietary format on creator-owned videos through YouTube Studio, but normal viewers can't download captions through YouTube's interface for arbitrary videos — and YouTube has never offered an SRT export of translated captions for foreign-language content. Third-party SRT downloaders exist, but most don't translate (just extract whatever language is already there), most are limited to YouTube only, and most produce raw machine output without the polish of modern AI translation.

VinnerVi fills both gaps in one workflow. Paste a YouTube URL, pick a target language from 30+ options, choose SRT (or VTT, ASS, TXT), and the AI either translates the video's existing captions (1 credit/min when YouTube has them) or transcribes the audio with AI speech recognition first then translates (3 credits/min when there are no captions). The finished file lands in your Jobs tab and your inbox in 1–10 minutes, ready to drop into Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci, VLC, or YouTube Studio.

The same workflow handles 50+ other video sites — Bilibili (no VPN needed), TikTok, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Dailymotion, Niconico, Douyin, and a long tail of platforms most subtitle downloaders skip. Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and other DRM-protected streaming services aren't supported because their player blocks subtitle access entirely.

FAQ

Is the SRT download free?

Every new VinnerVi account includes 50 starter credits at no cost — roughly 50 minutes of subtitle-mode video or 17 minutes of audio-mode video. For a typical 5-minute YouTube video that's about 10 free SRT downloads before you'd need to top up. After the free credits, $5 buys 900 credits with no expiration.

Do I need to install anything?

No software install required for the URL workflow. Sign in to vinnervi.com/subtitles, paste a video URL, pick a target language, click Generate, and download the .srt file. If you also want translated subtitles overlaid on the video player as you watch, install the browser extension separately.

Which video sites can I download SRT files from?

50+ hand-verified video sites including YouTube, Bilibili, TikTok, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Dailymotion, Niconico, Douyin, and any site with a standard HTML5 video player. Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and other DRM-protected platforms are NOT supported — their player blocks subtitle access.

What format is the downloaded subtitle file?

Pick from four: SRT (universal), VTT (YouTube Studio, HTML5 video), ASS (styled subtitles with positioning and fonts), or TXT (plain transcript without timestamps). All four are generated from the same translation in one job.

Can I download the original-language SRT without translation?

Yes. Set the target language to the same as the source language (or pick the source as the target after auto-detection). VinnerVi extracts or transcribes the original captions and produces an SRT file in that language. Useful when you just want the SRT for a video that already has captions you understand.

How long does it take?

1–10 minutes for most videos. Short clips finish in under a minute; full-length videos take longer. The file lands in your Jobs tab and is emailed to you when ready. Failed jobs (corrupted audio, deleted videos, etc.) refund credits automatically.
